"Interfaith Immersion: An Urban Pilgrimage"
June 24-28, 2020 in Chicago, IL, USA
(cancelled for 2020 due to Covid-19)
This is the only pilgrimage of its kind held in the first city to host Eastern and Western seekers together in one place at the Parliament of the World’s Religions in 1893. Led by Drs. Banashak and Lundy, we will visit various "holy houses" and share meals and sacred space with individuals of several traditions, all the while learning what it means to be an interfaith/interspiritual person today in a constantly changing world.
The goal of the pilgrimage is not to go from site to site with minimal reflection and maximum consumption. Rather, we will engage in contemplative practices together, including contemplative listening, walking, and journaling, and adopt a reflective mindset and heartspace for this journey. Each day will include a pilgrimage to a sacred site, briefing and learning before each visit, interspiritual practices, contemplation, and an introduction to our listening methodology, Pure Presence™. In keeping with the true spirit of pilgrimage, we may take moderate walks to some sites in the city. (For those who are unable to walk, transportation will be provided.) Our studies/meetings and overnight accommodations will be at the Cenacle Retreat and Conference Center in the Lincoln Park area of N. Chicago. Open to all individuals. Space is limited. Note: This is Pride Weekend in Chicago and there will be over 1,000,000 attendees at the parade on Sunday. Our schedule will permit anyone to attend, if interested. And if you are flying in, we highly recommend that you find a flight on Sunday night, rather than in the afternoon. |
“What matters most on your journey is how deeply you see, how attentively you hear, how richly the encounters are felt in your heart and soul.”
― Phil Cousineau, The Art of Pilgrimage: The Seeker's Guide to Making Travel Sacred |
